My team uses Canto every day for our graphic design projects. It's a great media manager and has really helped us to streamline the process of sorting, tagging, and searching for photography assets. With the Adobe Creative Suite integration, we're able to import seamlessly into our signature print and digital work without having to download it to our devices. When my department first started looking for a DAM solution, we were on multiple platforms (Google Drive, Dropbox, Internal S: Drive) and it was difficult to find anything.
  • Facial recognition technology helps us tag key staff automatically.
  • The in-tool search and tagging features are very robust, allowing us to find the specific assets we need fast.
  • The AI driven auto tagging is a nice addition and helps broaden what we can look for.
  • The ability for outside vendors to seamlessly upload content straight into the tool saves a lot of work for us.
  • The ability to selectively share out specific assets or folders with other departments or principals is a great way to really capitalize on our assets without creating extra work for my team.
  • The price point is a bit high, so I'd like to see either more features to justify that or a price drop.
  • The Adobe Connector interface is functional but could be a bit more drag and drop, right now it's a little clunky, if effective.
  • Right now you can't share collections between users, it would be great if we could do that for major projects rather than having to create a new album or tag.
Canto is a really great tool for signature publications, like our annual magazine, the Minnetonka Alumni Magazine. While I oversee the design and layout, there is another staff who helps gather photos, make infographics, etc. By keeping everything in Canto, I'm able to really quickly and easily collaborate and locate the assets I need. It has been invaluable in helping my team improve our efficiency.

We are still getting out Canto up and running, but I can see so many opportunities on how it will help us organize images, assets and customers!
  • makes it easier to find images
  • allows us to share images with customers
  • portals are amazing!
  • takes time to get it up and running
  • learning curve
Way easier to find images than using dropbox.

We use Canto as a place to sort all of our digital asset. As an organization that has a lot of historical documents, Canto is a great place for us to digitally store photos, pdfs, videos, and so much more. It also is a great asset for our organization since half of us work remotely.
  • Tagging ability
  • Organizational tools for digital assets
  • Automatic tags
  • Customer support/learning hub tools
Canto is really helpful when we need to give access to digital content to third party vendors. The ability to create specific links and folders for them and customize what they can do with the content is super useful, especially when dealing with copyrighted materials. I think it is possible for Canto to be less useful depending on the types of content you are working with. For us, it's perfect but I could see situations where certain file types might not work well within Canto.

We use Canto to store and organize all of our image assets. Images in our library are tagged and categorized, and facial recognition is used to identify people in the images. This type of image organization will make it easier for our users to view, share, and search for photos and assets within our collections.
  • Facial recognition.
  • Public portals for sharing.
  • Supports single sign-on.
  • Image management.
  • More intuitive user experience.
  • Had upload errors when using the Canto connect.
  • More customization.
Canto is well suited for asset management if you have a large number of images to organize, although it does take quite a bit of time to add information and make the assets information-rich. We have a fairly small team using it, but it seems like a large team would be able to use it just as easily. Having everything in one place and the ability to share collections through the portals will work well, I see us using that feature often.

Canto is being used in my company as a switch over or replacement for our current server. The first part of that transition though is mainly having all of our photos from multiple departments all in one place and available to everyone. It is going to be used company-wide, but we have separate areas set up within by department. It solves the problem of storage space, controlled environment, security and an upgraded system.
  • Canto is great at letting you add multiple tags to photos, documents, and files so that they can be found by anyone no matter how they might be searching for it.
  • Canto has the upload ability to to complete transfer very large file folders and still keep the exact file structure and keep things labels and divided.
  • Canto is wonderful at being able to look for random and specific items across a large platform by your simple words or phrases.
  • Canto has a place where it automatically tags items as they are uploaded, and they call it smart tags. I think Canto could be tweaked a bit to pick up more common tags on it's own.
  • Canto has facial recognition yet cannot search within a bunch of photo files for pictures with tile flooring in them. I think this is an area for improvement.
  • Canto is able to upload large folders and keep the structure, but then is not able to keep the exact same structure when you are simply creating a new file within the program.
Canto is well suited for a variety of different uses and a variety of companies, rather large or small. It is well suited when it comes to photo uploads and storage. It seems to have fantastic security. It is easily accessible, although I think it would be nice if they had an app.

We are excited to use Canto for the management of our digital marketing assets for ease of searchability and consistency for our teams. It is currently being used by our Marketing teams, but we anticipate it being used by many more departments. It is very hard to search for the right stock photo within a folder, and it is impossible to keep up with the licensing. Canto solves both issues.
  • Easy implementation
  • Google Drive/External Link Synchronization
  • Does all the hard work for us
  • After the setup time frame, we got everything working to where it was 100%. We have enjoyed our service since implementation.
If you have to manage more than 300 files for digital marketing assets that other users have to also use, Canto is the right solution for you.

We purchased Canto as a solution for our massive library of images and graphic design files. It's being used by everyone internally and will be used by our clients once we set those portals up so they have better immediate access to image files. Our pre-existing database was messy and difficult to work through, where Canto allows us to keep everything in one spot with amazing search functionality for ease of use.
  • Organization
  • Search queries
  • UX
  • Onboarding is tough, but that's more because it's a robust tool and we're a team of over-thinkers :).
Marketing agencies far and wide would be a great place for Canto. Any creative-based business with a lot of assets, really.

We use Canto to organize our assets including photos, videos, style guides etc. Our favorite feature is the ease of sharing. We no longer have to use Dropbox etc to share large files that cannot be attached to emails. We can also create specific branded portals to share with clients and other teams.
  • Style guides for press kits
  • Portals to share with clients
  • Asset organization and management
  • Difficult to navigate
  • Learning curve
  • Simpler settings
The client portals are the game changer. If you have instances where you need to share particular assets in a clean way, Canto is the way to go. If you are just looking to store photos and videos somewhere, there may be easier options to use for your needs and wants.

We are using the system to consolidate all of our assets in one central location. Our universe is hard to manage as it is cross functional and cross divisional.
  • On Line Tutorials
  • How To Videos
  • Reference Materials
  • Workspaces are a bit clunky
  • Sales reps point to tutorials before reaching out
  • Procurement process took long
Best for multiple users with decentralized access
Good for restriction of access by user type
Good for intelligent grouping of assets
Superior tagging and metadata functionality

Canto has been implemented across our whole company as a digital asset manager. On a day to day usage the company uses it [to] reference and communicate with our team in the field. The utilization of these assets that we store helps our sales teams as well as our retailers with making creative asset pushes for there company of our product.
  • Structure and ease of use.
  • Open communication with account manager.
  • Some redundant features
I think [Canto] is a great service as we are using it daily. It has definitely helped increase our graphic design and sales departments communicate better with each other getting them the right assets all the time for each of their stores.

Canto is used across the organization, but some departments are more engaged than others. Canto allows us to streamline photo-sharing, and engage employees across the university in the Creative process. We can categorize, sort, and organize photos intuitively, so that the barrier to access is very low to new users.
  • Canto allows for specific tags of photos, keeping assets highly organized
  • Canto allows me to directly upload or import photos from other platforms, preserving crucial metadata
  • Canto have Workspaces and Portals tools, allowing different levels of collaboration
  • The tagging feature sometimes has issues, and can't recognize that a photo has the same tag if one has a capital letter and the other is lowercase
  • Changing the metadata of lots of photos at once can be difficult and slow
  • Not all user levels can delete photo albums, even if they created them
Canto is suited very well for digital collaboration across departments, particularly with everyone working virtually. Canto is a high quality platform where we can share our work and choose photos for our website. However, sometimes the interface can be a bit confusing and definitely requires a learning curve. Certain types of photo imports are difficult, and there are sometimes unexpected technical issues, but overall, it's a great platform.

Canto is used daily by a handful of contributors, for the end-use of the entire organization. It is used to store our large catalog of imagery and photography as well as videos. We have two publications, plus marketing materials and historical imaging, that we store all the graphics for in Canto. We also have field offices and we use Canto for gathering photos from staff members there remotely.
  • Capacity--haven't needed to upgrade or change
  • Upload link for non-admin contributors to share graphics and photos with the marketing team
  • The ability for photos to be in multiple albums/locations reduces redundancies and helps people find things, even if they aren't where you would intuitively think they are
  • The ability to share album links outside the organization
  • Needs a reliable back button that goes up a level, not just to the photo you looked at before--maybe "back to album"
  • When you create a link, it should automatically copy to the clipboard; the extra step of saying "copy" is annoying and I'm forever going out of the program just to have to go back and find what I was looking for because I forgot to hit "copy"
  • Resolution of graphics in library/thumbnail view is not very high; it often looks blurry, so you have to click into the image to see the full photo, which also makes it hard when selecting between a handful of images for the one you actually want to download
If you have a large volume of photography, Canto is excellent for storage. The keywords are helpful, but it's important that you have a keyword protocol if you have a larger team. I love that it's web-based and can be accessed from anywhere. It's not the most intuitive of systems though, so if you have staff with steep tech learning curves, a written outline of how to find things would be helpful to them.

Our Creative department has suffered from years of file disorganization. Canto is helping us create a searchable library of our digital assets. Currently, the main use is a means of giving access to others outside of our department in a simple and user-friendly way. We are working to build this as our main resource for developing materials within the creative department.
  • Visually appealing and simple user interface.
  • Ability to house assets in multiple "folders" without file duplication.
  • Ability to quickly create asset portals to give file access to others.
  • In the stylebook area, it auto-populates the CMYK formula when you enter a Pantone number. I wish this could be adjusted since our company's guidelines do not match these auto-generated formulas.
  • I wish there was a way to upload InDesign files and it's links together and the connection between the InDesign file and links would stay intact.
Canto offers a great way of giving controlled access to digital files to specific audiences. The ability to easily search for and distribute files is excellent. From what I've learned of Canto, this is not the tool to use for work-in-progress. Think of Canto as more of a library of final assets.

I implemented Canto into the design workflow at Honda R&D about 15 years ago to manage our tens of thousands of film and digital files of cars, motorcycles. We needed a secure way to store and retrieve our assets, Canto was the solution. I have since implemented Canto at Surfing Heritage and Cultural Center to help manage all of their digital assets.
  • High security.
  • Global access.
  • Great customizable key wording and metadata fields.
  • Originals are safe and secure.
  • Some users not familiar with DAM have a hard time, but do catch on.
If you have a large number of digital assets and need to store them securely and want to retrieve them easily Canto is the product.

We use Canto as a tool to review and organize photography from a wide variety of sources. From collaborating with professional photographers to organizing image received from customers, Canto allows our entire team easy access to media for use across all marketing platforms.
Everything is accessible to everyone who needs it no matter their location.
  • Easy to use.
  • Customizable access.
  • Robust search functions.
  • Browsing images could be faster.
  • There is a learning curve.
  • Initial image loading can be time consuming.
Culling images is more difficult because the online interface is much slower than a desktop app such as Lightroom. Canto would excel as a content distribution platform for approved images and other media from a corporate marketing department to content end users or publications that need the content to run campaigns.

Canto has been a good addition to our Marketing Production team resources and has helped us with process development and organization. Currently, it is only being utilized within the marketing team but we consistently use the branding tools and portals to help us share files with other organizational groups.
  • Folder structure is easy to develop and use.
  • Search capabilities make it easy to find files.
• Sharing internally and externally is easy given different sharing options.
  • Versioning makes it easy to save versions without having to create new files each time.
  • Adobe Integration is slightly lacking. Designers have to download packaged files in order to gain access to all the links. Canto connector does not function as well as would be expected.
For an organization that is constantly making file updates and has a large number of files to store with a semi-complicated file structure Canto is a good solution. Probably not as helpful if you are looking for just an asset manager to store files.

We mostly use Canto in the marketing department, but other departments like Sales and HR have access to it. Before Canto, all of our assets were in an intensive folder structure that was tough to navigate unless you were in it often. When people from other departments were trying to use our assets, it would take them a long time or have to ask someone on the marketing team for help. With Canto, they're able to simply use the search bar and easily find what they're looking for.
  • The facial recognition feature does a great job, and is really helpful.
  • It's easy to find assets via the search bar.
  • Portals are great if you're using Canto to give assets to people outside of your company.
  • Getting started with Canto is tough. It takes a long time to upload a massive amount of content and organize it.
  • The folder structure can be annoying like learning the difference between album and folder, etc. Plus when you're uploading new content, it's hard to a new folder.
  • At times it seems like there are too many features. It has a lot of features, but they don't all seem necessary. It seems like these features make it confusing and slow.
  • No mobile app. I'd love an app to upload or download things from my phone.
Companies without a lot of assets wouldn't need Canto since it's pretty expensive. Also, when you're scrolling through photos and videos, it usually lags. So it's really important to have buy-in from the whole team to utilize the right tags and keywords.

We use it across the marketing department to organize all our marketing materials. Canto helps us keep our materials accessible and neatly organized by using keywords and other metadata. This type of organization makes it easy to categorize materials so they are easy to find by any of our users in the future.
  • Extremely customizable to the needs of our team.
  • Keyword search for managing materials.
  • Responsive interface.
  • Video annotations to a specific time would be helpful.
  • Being able to export parts of a video instead of all of it.
  • Better AI to recognize content in images and categorize it automatically.
Great to organize content but it is a tedious task. One can move a whole library with folder structures and Canto will keep everything organized the same way, When creating links to send to others, it takes a lot of clicks and could be improved so it only takes 2 clicks max.

At this time, Canto is being used by my organization for two departments. It primarily addresses an organizational problem. We wanted a place for employees to easily download our collateral. Previously, we have multiple folders and people were using outdated marketing material. We now know everyone is downloading and getting the most up to date things. We all use it for internal purposes such as keeping training videos.
  • Great interface.
  • Easy to download material.
  • Easy to upload updated collateral.
  • I find myself having trouble using the search tool.
  • I wish I could organize into subfolders.
Canto is well suited for salespeople. They tend to be unorganized and resistant to learning new platforms. Canto was easy to implement and it continues to be a great asset to our team. A scenario where it may be less appropriate is when you have multiple editors/designers. There isn't a way to track changes in Canto, which would be a great bonus feature.

We have been using Canto as a Digital Asset Management tool, it helps us to catalog and share all of our digital assets both internally as well as externally to our customers.
  • The search feature is very robust and makes finding the assets you need easy and quick.
  • Being able to create custom portals for our varied customers has really streamlined asset sharing.
  • I am in and out of Canto all day, but it logs me out after only a little bit of time when I'm inactive. It would be nice if it was a longer window for Admins.
  • The learning curve is a bit steep but it is really only because of how customizable and robust the program is.
If your company has a growing digital library of images and digital assets that multiple people need access to, I would highly recommend this DAM as a great tool.

We use Canto to keep track of all of our projects across departments and topics. It is mostly used within the Marketing departments, and it helps us keep organized, especially if edits are made! It's great that we can update the files within a folder and the link will remain the same for those who have it.
  • Easy to update and share.
  • Great for organizing and separating projects into folders.
  • Keyword search is easy.
  • Edit history.
  • Facial recognition on the app.
  • More filters would be helpful when trying to find something specific that was not tagged properly.
It is great for teams with many members where they are all working on different projects. When a project is done, the member can shoot the link off for approval and then all files are in one spot. Much easier than trying to upload large files in an email or Teams message. All edits are tracked and it is amazing that the same link can be used for the updated files when edits do have to be made.

Canto is being used as a way for the many organizations within our company to have a centralized and easily searchable library of our photos. Primarily it allows us to more easily search for specific photos that used to be disorganized in many separate folders.
  • Easy/intuitive layout and general interface that allows users to search via a search bar or through a more traditional folder layout.
  • Branding Customization.
  • Customization of the tags/categories to our specifications (custom fields).
  • Very responsive to feature requests and program is updated with new additions frequently.
  • Curated views allow us to "sort" our photos in an order that makes most sense within an album.
  • Technical support is very responsive to issues. Makes sure to follow up with you to make sure things are functioning correctly.
  • Integration has been somewhat challenging figuring out how to get the searches to yield results in the specific ways we want.
  • Wish there were more specific/fined tuned permissions for individual users beyond the main 3 levels
  • Facial Recognition doesn't work that well and in fact we have stopped trying to use it. Sometimes the photos will be almost exactly the same (head shots for example) and it doesn’t recognize them as the same person or will misidentify. The interface when it comes to both applying and searching through names is also very clunky.
  • The ai "smart tags" have not been relevant for our business since most of our photos are of events not products being sold. The smart tags identify things like "human" "clothing" "accessories" which has no relevance to what people of our company will search. We end up having to go in and put in the tags manually.
I think Canto is a good option for the price and also for a company just starting out with a Digital Asset Management system.

We use Canto to house and organize our wide range of photos for marketing and other purposes. We are in the beginning stages of setting things up and adding photos to Canto, and we have loved learning more about it and the features it has. Our development team, including marketing, is currently the sole users but we hope to soon train our programs team on how to upload, keyword, and tag new photos that they take in the field. Canto addresses our overwhelming problem of not having a system to the madness of our photo collection. Before Canto, we had been adding photos to Dropbox but were not doing much to name and describe the photos, making the search for a specific photo very difficult. Now with Canto we are able to tag things like "girl smiling" or "previous water source" so we can nail down exactly what photos we want for marketing purposes. I am excited to see how else we will use Canto in the future.
  • Facial recognition.
  • Details embedded in each photo.
  • Easy and helpful customization for your needs.
  • Employee training.
  • Maybe ability to identify similar photos.
I would recommend Canto for anyone who is looking for an organized, streamlined way of keeping your photos. Specifically Canto would be great for marketing agencies, nonprofits, and other businesses that deal with a large amount of photos. I think Canto would be less appropriate for other types of businesses that do not deal with photos.
